Water Mobility & Sustainability Community
Our Mission: Pioneering the Future of Water Mobility & Sustainability
In a world where sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, our community is dedicated to revolutionizing water mobility while preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystems. We are a collective of innovators, researchers, policymakers, and everyday citizens united by a common goal: to create a sustainable and resilient future.
How We Operate?
Our focus is on developing and promoting sustainable water transport solutions. From sustainable yachts, electric speed boats, foilboards, jetskis to near-ground effect vehicles (planes) a, we advocate for clean, efficient, and reliable mobility options that reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact.
We believe that knowledge is power. Through networking events and exchange, keynotes and educational resources, we empower individuals and communities with the information they need to make informed choices about water mobility and sustainability. Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our waterways and the critical role they play in our ecosystems and economies. Another goal is to inspire students and researchers to start a career in this thrilling and important field.
By fostering collaboration between industry leaders, startups, academic institutions, and government bodies, we create a fertile ground for innovation. Our community is a hub for sharing ideas, developing new technologies, and implementing sustainable practices that can be scaled and replicated globally.
Effective change requires strong policies. We aim to work with policymakers and regulatory bodies to develop and implement policies that support sustainable water mobility initiatives. Our advocacy efforts aim to ensure that the voices of sustainability-minded individuals and organizations are heard at all levels of government.
Fields we are active in
The maritime industry is undergoing a significant transformation as it seeks to reduce its environmental impact and meet stricter emission regulations. Alternative fuels and advanced energy storage solutions are critical to achieving a sustainable future for vessels. These innovations not only help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also offer more efficient and reliable energy sources for maritime operations.
Our community members / startups Via Batteries and Frontier Fuels, are at the forefront of this revolution. Via Batteries is developing cutting-edge battery technologies designed specifically for the unique needs of marine vessels, ensuring longer life, higher energy density, and safety. Meanwhile, Frontier Fuels is pioneering the development of sustainable alternative fuels, offering cleaner options that can replace traditional fossil fuels used in shipping. Together, we are committed to driving innovation and creating a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
As the demand for environmentally friendly recreational activities rises, the boat building and yachting industries are increasingly focusing on sustainability. Sustainable yachting not only minimizes the environmental footprint of leisure boating but also promotes the use of eco-friendly materials, efficient energy systems, and innovative design techniques for bigger vessels. These advancements are essential to preserving marine ecosystems and ensuring that the yachting industry contributes to a cleaner, greener future.
Our community members Impetus Sailing, Tyde, Circular Waves and Kaebon, are leading the way in this vital shift. Impetus Sailing is dedicated to creating sustainable sailing catamarans. Tyde focuses on integrating advanced propulsion systems and sustainable materials in yacht construction. Meanwhile, Kaebon is developing lightweight, eco-friendly speed boats and innovative design solutions. Together, we are committed to revolutionizing the industry and setting new standards for sustainable yachting.
In the quest for cleaner and more efficient maritime transportation, innovations in electric drivetrains, foiling, and kite technology are playing a transformative role. These technologies are not only reducing the carbon footprint of marine vessels but also enhancing performance and energy efficiency. Electric drivetrains provide a sustainable alternative to traditional engines, offering quieter operation and lower emissions. Foiling technology significantly reduces water resistance, enabling vessels to glide above the water and achieve higher speeds with less energy. Meanwhile, kite technology harnesses wind power, providing an additional renewable energy source for propulsion.
Our community members Oceanflight Technologies, Aerofoils, Tranquility, Cargokite, and Revyve, are at the forefront of these advancements. Oceanflight Technologies, Aerofoils and Tranquility (besides Tyde & Kaebon) are pioneering foiling solutions that optimize vessel performance and energy use. Cargokite is complementing this with innovative kite technology, harnessing wind power to reduce fuel consumption while taking this technology to a bigger scale. Revyve is committed to integrating these hydrogen technologies into practical solutions for the maritime industry. Together, we are shaping the future of maritime transport, making it cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable.
Littering in the maritime industry poses a severe threat to marine ecosystems. Every year, millions of tons of waste, including plastics and other debris, end up in the oceans, harming marine life, disrupting habitats, and even entering the human food chain. The impact of this pollution is vast, affecting biodiversity, the health of coastal communities, and the overall balance of oceanic ecosystems.
Addressing this pressing issue, our community member, the project SeaClear, is developing innovative solutions to autonomously clean the ocean floor. SeaClear uses advanced robotic systems to detect, identify, and collect underwater litter, effectively reducing the environmental footprint of maritime activities. By targeting the bottom of the ocean, where waste often accumulates, SeaClear is playing a crucial role in preserving the health of our oceans and promoting a cleaner, more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
And there are so many more fields, which we were not even aware of.
Such as Near-Ground Effect Vehicles, rather like airplanes. Since these vehicles operate close to the water surface, the airflow between the wing and the surface is restricted. This restriction reduces the downward deflection of air, which in turn decreases the strength of wingtip vortices, leading to higher efficiency. Our community members Survolo & Wingwave are making use of this effect.
Or our latest member, Space-Ship, aiming to reduce 35% of maritime green house gas emissions by making use of satellite data reducing waiting times at anchorage by making better predictions about the estimated time of arrival.
