FarmInsect

Innovative Solution
FarmInsect enables standardized and economically viable production of Black Soldier Fly larvae directly on farms. Our modular climate chamber systems allow decentralized rearing with controlled process conditions, integrated digital monitoring, and optimized feed conversion. Compared to centralized mega-factories, our approach reduces logistics costs, increases raw material efficiency, and creates additional value for farmers. The produced larvae serve as a regional and sustainable protein source for poultry and aquaculture, while the resulting frass can be used as organic fertilizer. Through continuous optimization of feed formulations, bioconversion rates, and process automation, we systematically reduce production costs and improve scalability. FarmInsect addresses key structural challenges in global protein supply: rising feed prices, import dependency, and the need to lower the carbon footprint of animal production.
Founding Challenges
- Technological scale-up: Translating a biologically complex process from pilot scale to industrial, reproducible modules with stable bioconversion rates.
- Financing capital-intensive hardware: Building and pre-financing production systems while facing long sales cycles in the agricultural sector.
- Regulation and market adoption: Ensuring compliance with European feed regulations and convincing farmers and integrators of economic viability and operational reliability.
- Cost optimization: Reducing feed, energy, and labor costs to remain competitive with established protein sources.
