Venture Manager BioTech (m/f/d) Healthcare
Published September 15, 2026
The TUM Venture Labs are a joint initiative of UnternehmerTUM and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). At TUM Venture Lab Healthcare, we support science- and clinic-driven venture creation in Digital Health, MedTech, and BioTech — from the first idea to investment readiness. We combine entrepreneurial excellence with scientific rigor and a strong network across academia, industry, and the investor community.
Our BioTech team works at the interface of life sciences and entrepreneurship. We scout promising researchers early, often years before a startup exists, and support them from the first idea in the lab to a fundable venture — with hands-on coaching, access to BioTech lab space, and a large network across the national and international BioTech community.
For this team, we are looking for a Venture Manager BioTech to join our team in Munich who takes ownership of our BioTech venture pipeline and sciencepreneurship activities. You identify and build relationships with promising researchers and startups, support them on their path from research to market, and help shape how TUM Venture Lab Healthcare engages with the BioTech ecosystem.
Your Mission
- Startup Success (40%)
Identify and select promising BioTech startups for our portfolio. Act as a 1:1 sparring partner for founding teams on product strategy, market positioning, market development, fundraising, and team building. Connect startups with experts from academia, industry, and the investor community, open doors to resources within the TUM and UnternehmerTUM ecosystem, and act as the central point of contact for Munich's BioTech ecosystem.
- Sciencepreneurship (25%)
Scout and identify high-potential researchers across TUM's chairs, publications, and conferences, using AI-supported tools where they help. Win them over through formats such as meetups, doctoral seminars, and info sessions at their chairs, and feed qualified leads into our CRM (Salesforce). Run 1:1 sessions with sciencepreneurs, refer them to Tech2Market programs such as GeneNovate or iTeams, and support them with infrastructure access, funding, co-founder matchmaking, and mentors — in close coordination with the other Venture Labs.
- Education & Events (20%)
Plan and run TUM Venture Lab Healthcare's part of GeneNovate, Germany's nationwide entrepreneurship program for researchers in gene and cell therapies — from workshop design and mentor coordination to the final event and Investors' Day. Develop new education formats and content tailored to BioTech, closing gaps in our current program.
- Strategy & Concept (10%)
Help shape the strategic development of TUM Venture Lab Healthcare through pipeline design, prioritization, and quality standards, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the TUM Venture Labs' pipeline process and startup support.
- Reporting & Data Management (5%)
Maintain startup master data in Salesforce to ensure data quality, and translate that data into recommendations for C-level and other decision-making bodies.
Your Profile
- Relevant experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, venture building, technology transfer, or startup support — ideally in a BioTech or life sciences environment
- Several years of experience and a strong content focus in BioTech, e.g. gene and cell therapies, diagnostics, or pharma, with a good understanding of the specific challenges around validation, regulatory pathways, and market access
- Interest in and experience with technological developments in BioTech and life sciences, including the growing role of AI in research and drug discovery
- Ability to quickly grasp complex scientific ventures, question them critically, and act as a strategic sparring partner for founding teams
- Proven track record of driving projects forward independently, structuring them, and delivering results, including in complex, interdisciplinary settings
- High degree of independence, a structured way of working, and a strong sense of ownership
- Strong communication skills and a confident presence with a wide range of stakeholders — from researchers to founding teams and investors
- A PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related life sciences field is a plus
- Very good German and English skills, both at least C1 level, written and spoken
