Course Content:
- The development of healthcare systems (access, quality, financing, reforms)
- Drug benefit assessment and pricing (national and international)
- The business model of the pharmaceutical industry (drug product life cycle, patent protection, the relationship between biotech and pharma)
- Stakeholders in the healthcare system (doctors, health insurers, pharmaceutical industry, regulatory authorities, etc.)
- Brief overview of hospital care
- Simulation of a moderated panel discussion between representatives of the medical profession, pharmaceutical companies, health insurers, and patients
Learning Objectives:
- Acquire basic knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the drug market
- Develop a fundamental understanding of how healthcare systems function and are financed
- Build an understanding of the various career paths and roles within the pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare system
- Better identify personal job interests in different professional fields within the healthcare system
- Develop awareness of the perspectives of doctors, pharmaceutical representatives, and health insurers regarding drug pricing and other controversial topics

Trainer: Laurin Waldmann
Laurin Waldmann worked for three years at the pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb in Munich and London in the areas of Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Value & Pricing, where he collaborated with many key players in the healthcare sector.
In his current role at TUM, he supports scientists in the life sciences with spin-off projects and conducts research in the field of academic entrepreneurship.
He studied Molecular Biotechnology at TUM, Harvard Medical School, and Nanyang Technological University.
